Veggies are flourishing
At the start of our growing season I seem to struggle with the veggie garden, and then suddenly notice that things start going better. At the same time though, the bandicoots always seem to find a way in. So finding and repairing holes in the fences is a daily occurance lately. Our fences are old, so they push against the fence, and burrow under it until they create access. I then fill in the hole and screw a piece of wood against the fence, or place a heavy rock against it.
It is heartbreaking to go out every morning and find my new little seedlings dug up....
The raised beds are just high enough that they cannot get in, so at the moment it is just the herb spiral and I think I need to create some sort of bandicoot fence around that.
The other produce I harvested was my pumpkin. the vine has started flowering again in two different areas, so far only male flowers, but I am keeping my eye out to see if I can get another one pollinated.
I have quite a nice assortment of mixed greens for a daily salad for lunch too.
I hope your garden is flourishing as well.!
Your pumpkin looks amazing, my friend grew some and gifted me too, I cut up the last of it last night and have been having roasted pumpkin for dinner which has been lovely.
ReplyDeleteRoasted pumpkin is so awesome. I just hope I cna get a few more off the vine, although it does seem to be one at a time....
DeleteI am pleased to hear that things are doing well over there. It seems that whatever we grow there is something that wants to eat it! A problem with living ruraly, I think. But it's worth it!
ReplyDeleteI suppose we should be flattered! Everything I pick out of the garden reminds me how it is so worth growing your own!
DeleteWe used to have a dog that would snitch cherry tomatoes when he thought we weren't looking.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you have lots of great stuff growing . The pumpkin does have a nice rich colour.
I fear I may have now captured the bandicoot inside my fenced yard! He even gets into the raised bed every night! grr!
ReplyDeleteEeek bandicoots!
ReplyDeleteHere it's usually bush turkeys (orange footed scrub fowl to be more precise) but bandicoots and still be an issue.
I have bush turkeys in the beautiful native garden next door, but since I have two little barky dogs they don't often steal my seedlings. I gave up on sunflowers though. They must be extra tasty.
And oh what a beautiful treasure of a pumpkin!!!!
