I have been pushing my boundaries

 Do you ever get halfway into a project and then think "Ohmigosh, what on earth did I think I was doing when I signed up for this?" A year ago I received a grant to write and publish an e-book on upcycling, and that project has kept me busy, at the expense of a quite a few other things in my life.  Keeping up with the gardening, blogging, cleaning (shhh).  

 This last month I was feeling very unsure about the whole project.  I love to teach others how to do crafts, and for the last three weeks my daughter and grandchildren have been visiting me. My daughter was very helpful with the final editing.   Imagine my delight when my 8 year old asked me to show her how to twine a mug rug. 


This was her first try!  

Yes, my instructions are clear and do-able!  








I think it is important for us to share our talents and gifts, and I do hope you will consider purchasing

 I feel it is best read on a laptop, tablet or desktop using the free kindle app.  It will be in colour, (as opposed to reading it on a kindle) and you can highlight and make notes to personalize it!  I didn't want to make a paper print book considering the message the book makes.



I have been very lax about blogging while I was working on this project, but working on 10 specific items meant that I really couldn't stray into other crafts that I found.  I was concentrating so hard, and now that the book is published, I must say I am a little lost and finding it hard to focus on just one thing.... Time to research all those things that slid by as I was busy.  

   Definitely on my list are Dorset buttons, they seem to be popping up everywhere, especially since I replaced the living room curtains with these light and breezy linen tab top ones.....  Now I have a huge bag of curtain rings!!!!  Has anyone here made dorset buttons? 




With the light and breezy curtains I can look out from my desk and see the lovely arch I created with a passionfruit vine climbing over it.  Most mornings there is at least one passionfruit dropped down onto the stones...  I love it when a project works :).



I also branched out and bought a pattern and fabric when the local Lincraft closed.  Am working on an idea of a two-tone asymmetrical top.   I will have to make my own pattern for that.  Stay tuned...

   In our hot and humid climate, jeans are not big movers in our op shop.  We had a $1 a pair sale rack, and still have full racks..... so I decided to make up a few different bags to see if we can somehow save these items from landfill.  Re-fashioning those items into something useful.  I made a few variations just to try out the market and sold this one on the first day they were put out! Sourdough Adventures!

When I came back from overseas, one of my friends gave me an old sourdough starter.  Old is good when it comes to sourdough, and this one had been handed around for at least 10 years.  I had heard and read about sourdough over the years, but when I started to make the first loaf I did feel a little out of my depth.  As I started to knead it I added more flour until the dough began to feel more like a regular dough.  I baked that loaf in my cast iron pan with the lid.  The taste was good and sour, it had a nice crust, but it was heavy. Last week I got a book out of the library called "sourdough" by Yoke Mardewi, and now this is a baker who knows her dough!  It is an amazing book that goes into great detail on every step of the way, and each recipe is so detailed, leaving nothing to chance.  I often make pita bread and have it ready in the freezer for a fast meal, so that was the first recipe I chose.  Then I decided to make hot cross buns...

Upcycling e book!

 I have been a bit quiet on the blogging front lately because I have been busy!   Last year I received a grant through our local government to write an e-book on upcycling!  I have been crafting, photographing, and writing, but slowly it is all coming together and I am due to publish on July 4th!   Upcycling is a cause really close to my heart.  I volunteer at our local op shop and it is terrible to see how many donations come through our door.  Too much to sell.  We package up boxes to be sent to remote areas in Northern Queensland, but so much really has to be thrown away as well.  I read about #MendInPublicDay run by Fashion Revolution.  You can check out their website  here  .
