Will this rainy season ever end?

Image
Just like winter is never ending over in Europe and America, so our rainy season is dragging on, well beyond its welcome.  We had the remains of a cyclone head onshore over the weekend, and on Saturday alone had 66mm of rain.  Too much for our already soaked ground!!!  My little seedlings that I planted would like some sunshine and their long leggy growth is not making for very strong plants.  I might have to rig up a light for them - can you believe that?  In the tropics? I looked out on Sunday morning to see that my tree fern had become uprooted.   The ground too soggy to support its shallow root base. I took that as an opportunity to re-think that section of the garden, and it is now planted further back alongside the fence.  That spaces the curry tree, the fan palm, the fluted fan palm and the tree fern all along the fence nicely.  I did not have the path around...

Green and white

I wish mine looked like Meems does at hoe and shovel!  I have cleared more space around so that it can grow.... grow......come on, grow!  This is a little caladium like plant a friend gave me, and I have put them around the edge of the croton area. they are flopping around a bit now, but will perk up soon and create a nice edging alongside the stone path.. as the weather has been so hot this winter, I am wondering what summer will bring. green and white seems somehow cooling... I have started my daily swim once again, and the water is pleasant. I must have blinked and missed winter. The humidity is still only 50% a...

Spiders and colour

Image
After all this rain the colour seems to stand our more vibrant and alive on the persian shield. And the croton Right on time, as Easter draws near, I see the Easter lilly is starting to bloom! This spider looks happy - I am sure he is consuming plenty of mosquitoes. I hope you are not getting tired of looking at heleconias, I know I never will. This one is my daughters favourite!
