I love the splash of color that the Cordelines and hibiscus flowers give to the variegated green and white foliage in my front garden.  So I decided to insert a few more along the length.   Cordeline are so easy to propagate -  cut off a branch and stick it in the ground, and it will grow.  Out in the sun the colour becomes very vibrant.

The two potted palms in the front never really did very well and one died while I was on holiday.  I re-planted the remaining one into the garden bed, since there is an empty spot at this time of year when the costus dies down.  I am not sure if the costus will stay there, and just come up during the wet season.  The pots are now planted with this bamboo type plant.  I like the look of it and you can just cut a stalk and put it into the ground or a pot and it grows!  The area out the front is looking quite colorful - with my peachy colored cannas  The hot pink bouganvilla  Pink cordelines  and a red canna about to burst open  Of course I do have my token front yard vegetable plant still producing one magnificent eggplant after another!

When we first moved in here 14 months ago, the front area looked a bit bare and unwelcoming.  Not at all what I wanted The shadecloth provided quite a bit of shade, but what I wanted was a more tropical green area to provide privacy and create a welcoming garden type atmosphere. I extended the mondo grass line to create a tropical garden.  I want guests to get a sense already in the front, of the tropical paradise that lies beyond. Hubby liked the idea of having a privacy screen, so that you couldnt look right into the house from the road. As it started to take hold I realised I didn't want the golden cane there, which could become huge and then very difficult to remove.   All the other plants seemed very happy there and have filled right out - maybe too much?  I might need to thin some out.
